9 SONGS

9 SONGS theatrical poster

Matt (Kieran O’Brien) is a British geologist who analyses sample bores of ice, deciphering thousands of years of glacial history from their compacted layers. As he does fieldwork in the extreme isolation of Antarctica, he finds himself also examining a single year from his own life, trying to piece together from a few intense memories – nine different gigs which perfectly captured the mood of the moment, and some episodes of sexual intimacy which came in between – what if any significance there was in his relationship (now over, or at least on ice) with visiting American student Lisa (Margo Stilley), and whether he was any less lonely then than he is now on the icy wastes.

9 Songs’ is an experiment in reductive narrative. Its basic storyline – guy meets girl, they have a relationship and then split up – is so familiar from real life as well as from countless films that director Michael Winterbottom can afford to dispense with any peripheral details and get right down to what is most essential in Matt’s memory. Bold as this strategy may be, it is more than a mere exercise in formalism, however briefly, the icy cold of human existence.
From L to R: Kieran O’Brien (Matt), Michael Winterbottom (director), Margo Stilley (Lisa)

EYELIDS

EYELIDS, Cannes Festival 2008
Director Brad Bischoff

Eyelids is a tender story about a boy who wishes to live on the eyelids of a girl he likes. From this intimate vantage point he will watch her life unfold: holding open tired eyes, wiping away tears, and painting peaceful dreams at night.

Acquaintances whom I asked to watch this short story on YouTube would like  it after because of its different attack and very touching story. From a simple boy who wanted to live inside the girl's eyelids and the narrator who will make you think of other moments  excluding on the story, Bischoff's technique on his flick is to capture audience power in remembering if they once wished to become an eyelid.

One of my favorite short films. Simple yet it has a different attack on your aorta. <3

Let me know if you'd like the story.

"And when it's just us all grown and cold. I'm afraid I won't be able to hold your eyelids cos I'd be too old. And when the day comes when we find clouds of white, I'll use all my paint to make your destination just right.
I'd live on your eyelids and I'll never leave because one of those days you might just notice me."

OLDIES but GOODIES

Gadgets that you loved before and how they changed your life.
Circa 90s and 2000. Remember the times when you're holding a big gadget and everyone seem to look at you for the tool depicts coolness in their eyes. Yeah, we're talking about gadgets that you loved, cried over, turned-you-world-around and for somehow (the benevolent side) changed your life. And before I really say goodbye to my gonzo teenage dream, let's retrospect the goodies I've had in my life.

#1 View Master
I remember when I was 3 to 4 years of age, my mother bought me a view master. It's has a resemblance with telescope (since you're like viewing a binoculars) but the difference is, instead of moon and star gazing, you will be putting a specialty film for you to check photos. It has a trigger-like button on its right side that you need to click for you see the slideshow inside the film. The slideshow that I could only remember were the animal collection and Mickey Mouse. The specialty film is made out of thick carton-like paper so in the event that it's kinda worn out you'll be having a hard time putting it back again on top of the view master (like a tape of Gameboy that you need to plug and unplug). This was a fad for kids during my time, I remember other View Master-like gadget that came out that was so fail because kids my age wouldn't appreciate its appearance. haha

Samples of what you could see inside the View Master:

Animals
and tragedies happening to animals. LOL

#2 Nintendo Gameboy
The gadget that I once dreamed of having, and yes--it became mine. Since I was young, bandwagon appeal was really a big hit for me (only for what we could afford), I first saw Gameboy to my younger cousin and to my surprise, I was so amazed since imagine a Mario game inside the 4x4 screen (since we usually play Mario in TV's LCD) that you can play right in front of your hands. When Papa retired from work, this was my only request that he granted, I remember the value of Gameboy during year 1996, it was 2,500 pesos and Mama insisted not to buy a tape since she said that I could always borrow one from my cousin.

 #3 Nokia 6150
This was my first-ever mobile phone in my life and sad to say that when it became my phone, it's already 2 years in fad. During that time, Nokia phones are the bombs, if you get caught holding one, you're way better compared to Alcatel and Samsung users, not to mention the mini phones that was hip and prices that ranged from 20-30k.
Using Nokia 6150 was so cool because of Snake, a pixelated snake game that became everyone's favorite plus I customized its back-light from the default to red, yes red seriously (30 pesos per light). Amidst of the coolness, I received bullies from my schoolmates since during that time the Nokia 3310 was the fad and it doesn't have an antenna which would make you more COOL!

I also want to know the goodies you've had before. SHARE! :)

FEEL GOOD SONGS this GOOD FRIDAY

A must feel good songs are songs that you like to hear that would make you feel good. Most of the time when you hear these songs, you feel, aahhh... and it brings a smile to your face. Remember the good old days.

No regrets, just enjoy and listen to music.

Allow me to share you my TOP FEEL GOOD SONGS.

Sweet Disposition- The Temper Trap

The song was (500) Days of Summer's OST  and has a good vibe rhythm. This is such a beautiful song with passionate lyrics that perfectly fit Dougy Mandagi's voice (Temper Trap's lead singer), one of the very rare songs that makes you feel what the lyrics are saying, straight from your aorta.

Bermuda- Kisses

Bermuda song is beyond beautiful. Close your eyes and the song will definitely take you
to somewhere else, and then go back. Reflect on it. Muse with the song.

KISSES
Genre: Thrash

If I Ever Feel Better- Phoenix

Happy in rhythm but the the song is about mending a broken heart. All about growing up and the pains of growing. This is my favorite Phoenix song. Its lyrics contradict the beat, but that's what makes it so great, you can dance to this song without any feeling that the lyrics is sullen.

PHOENIX
Genre: Alternative Rock

I'm good, I'm gone- Lykke Li

The song is a bit arrogant. Making money, being ambitious, trying to make it big, and the biggest act of revenge--to be successful.

UNMADE BEDS

Earlier this morning, I saw this very peculiar cart in Alabang that is also known as bed/house. It was built colorful and perky to each and every passerby eyes. He used a typical cart for fruits and painted the whole interior green. It has broken lights from car, a Baby on Board sticker (which can be seen in cars), a policeman badge, broken CDs, a medal, poster of a luxury car,  a picture of two horses (which is a sign of good luck for a house) and of course a painted plate number. I was so impressed. Who will ever think this kind of idea? But hey I'm only concerned, maybe he forgot to put a roof in case for rainy days. ☂
